Evans Vanosan is a chlorinated alkaline cleaner for dairy pipelines, direct expansion tanks and insulated bulk milk holding tanks. Its caustic and chlorine formulation tackles fats, proteins and milk residues during the wash cycle, suspending loosened soil so it can be carried away. Bulk tanks and milking machines have separate cleaning procedures, despite sharing the same dilution of 200ml in 40 litres of water. The tank method uses water at 60°C and at least three minutes of circulation. The milking-machine method starts at a higher temperature and uses a ten-minute recirculation stage after the required return temperature has been reached.
Vanosan can form the alkaline stage of an alternating wash programme within a planned dairy hygiene routine. Keep acid and alkaline products in separate stages, complete the required rinsing and never mix them. Thorough clean-water rinsing before reuse is essential to prevent chemical residues contaminating milk.

Directions for Use
Prepare the equipment and handling area
Read the label, safety data sheet and equipment instructions before use. Wear protective gloves, clothing and eye or face protection, and do not breathe mist. Begin cleaning promptly after the tank is emptied or milking is finished. Remove exterior dirt as appropriate and thoroughly pre-rinse with clean, cold water to remove residual milk.
Clean bulk tanks by recirculation
Immediately after emptying the tank, rinse thoroughly with clean, cold water. Prepare a solution of 200ml Vanosan in 40 litres of water at 60°C. Circulate for at least three minutes, then run the solution to waste. Rinse with clean, fresh water and allow the tank to drain thoroughly before returning it to use.
Clean milking machines in place
After milking, clean the outside of equipment such as clusters. Rinse the plant thoroughly with clean, cold water and run to waste. Prepare 200ml Vanosan in 40 litres of water at 77–82°C. Draw the solution into the plant, allowing some to run to waste until the discharge temperature is at least 50°C. Recirculate the remaining solution for ten minutes, then run to waste. Rinse thoroughly with clean, cold water and allow the plant to drain.
Keep alternating wash stages separate
For an alternating alkali-acid programme, use Vanosan at 200ml in 40 litres of water for the hot alkaline cycle described above. The manufacturer names Acid Brite for the separate cold acid wash, used according to its own label. Never mix the products: acids can release toxic gas on contact with Vanosan. Follow all separation and rinsing steps, and thoroughly rinse equipment with clean water after treatment and before reuse.

DX means direct expansion. Vanosan is intended for cleaning direct expansion milk tanks as well as insulated bulk milk holding tanks and dairy pipelines. Select the manufacturer's bulk-tank or milking-machine procedure according to the equipment, and check that the wash programme follows the installation's operating instructions.
What dilution does Vanosan require?
Both the bulk-tank and milking-machine methods specify 200ml in 40 litres of water. Their temperatures and cleaning times differ, so using the correct dilution alone does not complete the procedure.
