Cleaning Products - Brand Name vs. Generic
Branded or Unbranded? Have you ever considered this when buying cleaning products?
When talking about luxury items such as clothes or shoes, the brand of said item always seems to be the main topic of conversation. It is apparent that branding/pricing is only becoming more ‘important’ when purchasing these items. It may be important in some cases, however when shopping for cleaning products, does the branding really matter? With such a variety of brands nowadays, it is hard to tell what the difference in quality really is.
When shopping you will usually find two different types of people, the savvy-shopper who is always on the hunt for a bargain or someone who doesn’t really pay attention to the value or price and will pick up whatever catches the eye. I do tend to be brief when shopping for myself however; there are certain items you may want to avoid doing that with, cleaning products being one. It is vital to make sure you are using the correct products for the task being carried out. However, the main question here, does the brand name make any difference to this?
Cleaning Products
For most cleaning products such as bathroom cleaners, bleach, polish or any everyday cleaning materials for that matter, the cheaper option is usually the most popular. There is little to no evidence that proves the high-end cleaning brands actually work better than the cheaper items. However, if you need a cleaning product for a specific job e.g. mould, dust removal or tough stains there is certain brands which are better at tackling these problems.
Below is a chart made from online research based on the most popular cleaning brands and items that have been purchased in the UK. It’s been proven that Flash All Purpose Cleaner is one of the most popular cleaning products, with an average price of £2 for 500ml. However, Cilit Bang seems to be the least popular brand and averages around £3 for a 500ml bottle of multi purpose cleaner.
When it comes to cleaning products, the biggest brand being the best is not always correct. In my opinion, it really comes down to personal preference. When cleaning, some people will clean until their home looks brand new, whereas others, it may not bother as much. After using certain products, buyers will come to find what they favour more and what works best for them. Still, when you look further into these products, you will find that they are all actually very similar.
