IODOPHOR DISINFECTANT

DESCRIPTION

FAM 30 is an extremely powerful and fast acting Ministry Approved iodophor based disinfectant, approved for animal health use. It is bactericidal, fungicidal & virucidal, offering excellent protection from a wide range of disease causing organisms.

WHERE TO USE

FAM 30 can be used as a disinfectant & detergent sanitiser in all types of housing, e.g. poultry sheds, calf housing, piggeries, dairies, stables, kennels, catteries, fish farms, veterinary surgeries, abattoirs, cattle markets and animal transporters .

HOW TO USE

GENERAL SANITISING:

Adjust dilution to suit soil level and/or disease history of livestock housing i.e. between 1

part FAM 30 to between 125 and 600 parts of water. May also be used to treat buckets,

cages, hatchery trays, drinkers, crates and other non-porous surfaces.

WHEEL AND FOOT BATHS:

To help prevent the spread of disease, dilute 1:180 with water & renew daily if heavily

soiled.

AERIAL DISINFECTION:

Apply at a suitable rate through a mist generator.

DRINKING WATER SYSTEMS:

Used as a sanitising aid, dilute one part FAM 30 with 2,500 parts of water.

DISEASE CONTROL ORDERS:

Ministry approved against Foot & Mouth disease orders at 1:550,

Swine Vesicular disease orders at 1:600, disease of Poultry

orders at 1:125, Tuberculosis orders at 1:20 & for general orders

at 1:180. Effective if used against Aujeszky's Disease or Rabies

at a dilution rate of 1:125 with water. For use against Blue Ear Pig

Disease, dilute 1:180 with water.

COMPOSITION

Contains Iodine in the form of a complex with non-ionic surfactant, phosphoric and sulphuric acids.

PACKAGING

4 x 5 litre polythene bottles packed in a cardboard carton, 25 lt polythene drums, 200 lt polythene drums.

Avian Influenza (Bird Flu)

Astral Hygiene have several Approved Disinfectants for use in the control of Avian Influenza.

The disinfectant dilution rates below are recommended following the results of tests carried out using our disinfectants against various Avian Influenza strains. The dilution rates are also the same as the DEFRA (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) Approved Poultry Order dilution rates for these disinfectants, which DEFRA also recommend using.

FAM 30 (iodine base) dilution rate 1:150
GPC8 (glutaraldehyde base) dilution rate 1:190
VANODOX (peracetic acid base) dilution rate 1:300

We recommend the use of SHIFT (power wash liquid) and TARGET (foam cleaner) for the cleaning of surfaces before disinfection.

Farm workers need to pay special attention to Biosecurity. They should clean and disinfect clothing, footwear and vehicles and use foot and wheel dips containing an approved disinfectant (See DEFRA web site for more Biosecurity advice).

The Department of Health also recommends the maintenance of good basic hygiene, such as frequent hand washing followed by hand disinfection with Handsan to reduce the spread of the virus from your hands to your face, or to other people. The frequent cleaning of hard surfaces (e.g. worktops, door handles) with Vanoquat at 1:25, to avoid possible human transmission, is also recommended.

Foot & Mouth Disease

FAM 30 has been tested against the Foot and Mouth Disease virus at its DEFRA Approved dilution rate of 1:550 by the Institute For Animal Health. They have demonstrated that FAM 30 is effective in inactivating the virus after just 15 seconds (many other Ministry Approved disinfectants can take up to 30 minutes).

Evans Vanodine Awarded ISO 14001

Evans Vanodine has recently achieved accreditation by the British Standards Institution under the Environmental Management Standard ISO 14001. This standard requires that the company must commit to protection of the environment, full compliance with relevant environmental legislation and achieving improvements in its environmental performance.

These initiatives include the introduction of environmental criteria in the selection of raw material ingredients and suppliers, and to improve monitoring and control of both water consumption, and effluent production. The success of the company in this respect has already been recognised by their winning the ‘Best Water Efficiency Award’ in 2005 and the ‘Best Environmental Practice Award’ in 2006.

The company has committed to a strategic review of its material storage arrangements to minimise the potential for uncontrolled emissions to land or water-courses, and has already made significant improvements to the way in which packaging waste is managed. For example by introducing more rigorous waste segregation measures, the company is able to generate revenue from waste cardboard and plastic and so reduce the volume of waste consigned to landfill.

Evans Vanodine has also taken advantage of an Energy Efficiency survey by the Carbon Trust and has already implemented some of its recommendations to improve efficiency further and reduce overall energy consumption.
